The gratitude lesson

EN: This is meant to be a thank you letter, which happens to be regarding the wonder that is coffee. Any connection with this blog’s title is simply a coincidence. ๐Ÿ™‚

The whole process of planting the seeds, growing the trees and harvesting the coffee cherries, de-pulping them in order for the beans to ferment and then dry, sort and roast them, only to end up in our espresso machine, or kettle, so we can enjoy one quick cup of energy in the morning โ€“ itโ€™s honestly fascinating.

And I am truly grateful that the sheep herder who discovered it decided to try eating it and that, 22 years later, the Turks decided to make it into a drink and serve it in the morning.

So, thank you, sheep herder, and thank you, Turks.

Moving on, I am also grateful that I started drinking coffee during my teenage years, so when the time came, and work and college hit me like a rock and I needed extra energy, I was already accustomed to the taste of it, and I actually enjoyed it. The sad part, however, is that I had already developed a certain resistance to it, by the time I genuinely needed it, so I had to crank up the dose.

However, thank you mom, for drinking coffee each morning and inspiring the little girl to have the same habit as you, each morning.

Iโ€™m also glad that someone, in this world thought that the process of making coffee could be improved and automated, so much so that in 1884 the first espresso machine was presented to the public.

So thank you, Angelo Moriondo, for being so bored of making coffee in a kettle, that you decided to create and patent something we all thoroughly enjoy each day.

And last but not least, I am also grateful that I get to enjoy each day a delicious cup of coffee (or three), whether it is in my own home or it is bought from a coffee shop โ€“ I am grateful to have the luxury of affording it, and I am grateful to have people to share it with.


RO:ย Aceasta se vrea a fi o scrisoare de multumire, care se intampla sa faca referire la minunea pe care reprezinta cafeaua. Orice asemanare cu titlul acestui blog este pur intamplatoare. ๐Ÿ™‚

Intregul proces de plantare a semintelor, cresterea arborilor si culegerea fructelor de cafea, indepartarea pulpei astfel incat boabele sa poata fermenta apoi sa fie prajite, sortate si prajite, doar ca mai apoi sa ajunga in cafetiera noastra, sau ibricul nostru, ca sa ne putem bucura de o ceasca de energie dimineata – este cu adevarat fascinant.

Si sunt cu adevarat recunoscatoare pentru ciobanul care a descoperit planta si a decis sa incerce sa o manance si pentru faptul ca, 22 de ani mai tarziu, turcii s-au gandit sa faca din acele fructe, o bautura pe care sa o serveasca dimineata.

Asa ca, multumesc, ciobanule, si le multumesc si turcilor.

Trecand mai departe, sunt cu adevarat recunoscatoare si pentru faptul ca am inceput sa beau cafea din adolescenta astfel incat, atunci cand a venit momentul, iar job-ul si facultatea au facut un combo si m-au lovit ca o piatra si am inceput sa am nevoie de energie extra, eram deja obisnuita cu gustul, ba mai mult, imi si placea. Cu toate acestea, partea mai nefericita a fost ca deja imi construisem o oarecare rezistenta la cafeina, asa ca a fost nevoie sa maresc doza.

Dar, totusi, iti multumesc mama, ca ai baut cafea in fiecare dimineata astfel incat m-ai inspirat ca, atunci cand cresc, sa am acelasi tabiet ca tine, in fiecare dimineata.

Sunt, de asemenea, recunoscatoare si pentru faptul ca, cineva in lumea asta, s-a gandit ca procesul de pregatire a unei cesti de cafea ar putea fi imbunatatit si automatizat, in asa fel incat, in 1884, primul espressor a fost prezentat publicului.

Asa ca multumesc, Angelo Moriondo, pentru ca ai fost atat de satul de cafeaua la ibric, incat ai decis sa creezi si sa brevetezi o inventie de care ne bucuram cu totii pe deplin.

Si nu in ultimul rand, am o mare recunostinta pentru faptul ca am posibilitatea de a ma bucura in fiecare zi de cate o cafea (sau trei), fie ca o savurez la mine acasa sau intr-o cafenea – sunt recunoscatoare ca am luxul de a-mi permite acest obicei, si ca am persoane cu care pot impartasi aceasta pasiune.
